This is a great weekend recipe. It’s a little bit time-consuming but definitely worth it.
The dough is quite easy to make: 500g flour, 1 tsp each sugar & salt, 1 tsp yeast, 190g water & 3 tsp olive oil. The recipe says to let it rise for an hour, but we found 75 mins worked better (remember to factor that into your prep time).
Of course toppings vary for pizza. We used a regular pre-made pasta sauce, cheese (feta, cheddar*, and “emmentaler” pizza käse), mushrooms, tomatoes, wurst (pepperoni), and olives. Dress and pop it in the oven for ~15 minutes! Delicious, and big enough for leftovers for lunch the next day!
*Side note about cheddar cheese: Cheddar is one of the foods I miss most living in Germany. It’s not that it’s not available here — you can find it, but you have to look for it, and it’s often very expensive. A few times a year, a supermarket called Lidl sells it at a very affordable price. In January, I bought 3 blocks, and just yesterday, as a part of “International Food Week,” they had it again, so I bought 4 blocks.
Coming next…. HOMEMADE BREAD!
