Flammkuchen

I first had this delicious dish when we visited friends of my boyfriend’s about a month ago. Literally, flammkuchen (also known as tarte flambée in French) means ‘flame cake’. Its origins are in Alsace. The best way to describe it is a very thin pizza, only with different toppings. It’s relatively easy to make and very tasty.

We used the same recipe as we did for the pizza dough. This flammkuchen isn’t a traditional one, as they should contain onions (onions are not my favourite!). Instead, ours had a base of creme fraiche, plus cheese (feta & Emmentaler), mushrooms, leeks, and bacon. The only problem was that the dough was a bit thicker than it should’ve been, but other than that this dish was excellent.
