“Books are both our luxuries and our daily bread.”
– Henry Stevens
During the last year of my undergraduate degree (2007-8), I made the decision to always have a fiction book on the go. At the time that was a huge challenge since I was inundated with course reading. However, since then I have been devoted to reading as much as I can. Sometimes that is a lot and other times not, but to quote one one of the best posts I’ve ever seen about reading, “reading is a non-negotiable part of my life.” People often ask me where I get my recommendations from. I read a lot of book reviews, pay attention to “book news” and blogs, and like everyone rely on recommendations from friends and family. I try to read as wide a variety that I can, but I lean towards literary fiction and crime fiction and over the past couple of years have tried to read more non-fiction.
Some of my favourite authors (at the moment – it changes) are A.M. Homes, Richard Russo, Zadie Smith, Jonathan Franzen, Tana French, Linden MacIntyre, & Alistair MacLeod.
